At Bavsound, we know road trips aren’t just about the destination—they’re about the journey, the sound of the open road, and, of course, the soundtrack that makes every mile unforgettable. And when it comes to epic road trips, there’s no better person to ask than our COO, Tom.

Tom has spent years traveling across the country on two wheels—riding through 48 states (Yet to cover Hawaii and Alaska) on his Harley (not a BMW… we know, we know, wink wink). From winding mountain passes to long stretches of open desert, he’s seen it all. So, we asked him: If you had to pick three must-drive road trips for this spring and summer, which would they be?

Here’s what he had to say.

1. Tail of the Dragon – North Carolina & Tennessee

There’s nothing quite like the Tail of the Dragon—an 11-mile stretch of US-129 packed with 318 curves that’ll test your skills and keep your adrenaline pumping. I remember the first time I rode it—one minute I was leaning into a tight switchback, the next I was setting up for the next turn, barely a second to breathe in between. If you love precision driving, tight turns, and an adrenaline rush, Tail of the Dragon is an absolute must.

There are no intersections, no driveways, and no straightaways long enough to get comfortable. Just pure, technical riding (or driving) through dense forest, with an occasional glimpse of Fontana Lake or the Smoky Mountains. And let me tell you—if you’re not focused, this road will humble you fast.

Pro Tip:

  • Go early in the morning to avoid heavy traffic from cars and motorcycles.
  • Stop at the Deal’s Gap Motorcycle Resort for great souvenirs and to see the famous "Tree of Shame" (where unlucky riders leave their broken bike parts).

2. Million Dollar Highway – Colorado

For those who crave high-altitude adventure and jaw-dropping mountain views, Colorado’s Million Dollar Highway (US-550) is a dream drive. Running through the San Juan Mountains between Silverton and Ouray, this 25-mile stretch offers stunning cliffside views, tight switchbacks, and no guardrails—so don’t get distracted by the scenery.

Springtime brings a mix of snow-capped peaks and lush green valleys, making it one of the most visually striking road trips in the country. And while the origins of the name are debated (some say it cost a million dollars per mile to build, others claim it's because of the million-dollar views), one thing’s for sure: it's an experience worth every mile.

Pro Tip:

  • Be prepared for unpredictable weather—snow can still hit in early spring.
  • Stop in Ouray, known as the "Switzerland of America," for hot springs and a killer mountain-town vibe.

3. The Badlands & Beyond – South Dakota

If you are a bit like me and you like some weird stuff then you are going to love this place. If you’re looking for a road trip that feels like stepping onto another planet, Badlands National Park is the place. The first time I rode through, I couldn’t believe the landscape—massive rock formations, deep canyons, and rolling prairies stretching to the horizon. It’s a surreal mix of rugged beauty and complete solitude. I remember thinking "This is what God had in mind when he invented road trips".

But the real fun starts when you keep going. Take a quick detour to Wall Drug, a roadside attraction so weird it’s worth a stop (free ice water and five-cent coffee, anyone?). Then, head into Custer State Park and drive Needles Highway, a winding road that snakes through towering rock spires and tight tunnels barely wide enough for a car. And if you’re lucky, you’ll get stuck in a buffalo traffic jam—because yes, they do not care about your schedule.

Pro Tip:

  • Needles Highway closes in winter but reopens in April—perfect timing for a spring adventure.
  • For a real Wild West experience, swing by Deadwood, a town with saloons, shootout reenactments, and Old West charm.

Where Are You Headed This Spring?

No matter where you go, the best road trips are about more than just the road—they’re about the experience. The moments when your playlist syncs perfectly with the scenery. The roads that challenge you. The ones that make you pull over, take a deep breath, and just appreciate the ride.

So, where are you headed this spring? Let us know in the comments—and before you hit the road, make sure your ride sounds as good as it looks with a Bavsound audio upgrade.

Safe travels, and I’ll see you out there.

Rock on!
