General FAQs
What will fit my car?
Thank you for your interest in our Bavsound products. Your options will all depend on the Year, Make, Model, Body style, and Audio System in your vehicle.
You can see everything available for your vehicle by using our kit builder after entering your vehicle information. If you don’t know what audio system you have, please look to the next FAQ to find out how to get that information.
How do I know what audio system I have? VIN CHECK!
Thank you for your interest in our Bavsound products. Your options will all depend on the audio system in your vehicle. In order for us to help you more accurately, please email sales@bavsound.com with the car's 17 digit VIN number. Once received, we will be happy to provide you with the best audio options for your vehicle.

The audio system code can be found in the #600 options range. If you do not see one of the following codes you have a Base audio sound system:
645/ 661 - Business Radio = BASE audio system
676 - HI-FI (STANDARD)
677 - LOGIC7 / PROFESSIONAL DSP / TOP HIFI
688 - HARMAN KARDON
674 - HARMAN KARDON without MOST connection
752 - ENHANCED PREMIUM SOUND/ DIRAC or M-Audio (not compatible with E39 kits)
BAVSOUND does not make upgrades for the 6F2 - Bang & Olufsen audio system or other super premium audio systems.
Is there an amplifier for my car?
Thanks for your interest.
The Revenant and Revenant Pro amplifiers are now Sold Out and have been Discontinued. It was no longer economically viable to continue our amplifier product line. We do not have any plans to release a newer model at this time.
If you are looking on for any amps on the secondary market, be sure to verify your audio system and compatibility before purchasing any amps. The warranty is non transferable!
For E36, E38, E39, E46:
We are not aware of any simple aftermarket amp solutions for the E chassis models as they are a closed system that would require a full rewiring of the the entire vehicle to do an amp upgrade.
The best solution we can recommend is an OEM replacement.
Can I just get one speaker or part of the kit?
If you purchased our speaker upgrades and one of your speakers has blown, we can get that covered under warranty if it was purchased within the last 4 years.
Otherwise, we don’t sell individual, pairs or sections of a complete speaker kit.
In case you are wondering why a complete kit, we don't sell our speakers in pairs or individual parts, for these reasons:
Our systems are designed to be sold, well, as a system. Every speaker is engineered to work with every other speaker, and without replacing all your speakers, you won't get optimal sound or performance from our upgrade.
Selling individual pairs requires manual entry on our end, and because our kits are made up of so many small parts in addition to the speakers in order to make them a perfect fit for every application, manual entry introduces the possibility of mistakes, which can lead to a customer experience that's not to our standards. Until and unless we can automate this process so we can ensure a perfect customer experience every time, we aren't able to sell our speakers outside of complete kits.
If you have one blown speaker, often the rest are soon to follow. We recommend replacing all speakers when one speaker is blown.
Thank you so much for considering Bavsound for your audio needs. We truly appreciate it, and we're committed to making sure you get great sound in your vehicle. Please let me know if you have ANY further questions or I can help with anything else.
Why isn't my discount code working?
Sorry, our website only allows for one discount code per order. Choose wisely!
If your discount code is not working it may have expired.
Do we ship outside the US and Canada?
We just recently started shipping service to most countries outside of the United States.
To get your order to shipped, we've partnered with Passport Shipping Carriers and they will be the international service provider for all international orders. (They will be the Seller for all orders to the European Union for orders €150 and Under).
The international shipping cost, duties and taxes will be calculated and added to the order during the checkout process. We apologize if your country or territory does not show up as an available shipping option. You will need to find a way to ship to a neighboring country where you can arrange for it's pickup.
International returns are not covered by Bavsound's free return policy!

Where are the installation instructions?
The video install instructions can be found on our website under your vehicle kit page by clicking the “SEE MORE DETAILS” link and scrolling down the page till you see the videos. Or for quicker results: Enter your vehicle's information into the search fields through the Installation Instructions link at the bottom of each page.
In many cases the install video may not be of your exact vehicle. That is okay!
Most of the install processes are the exact same process or at least similar enough in nature that you can easily figure out the appropriate steps.
We tend to film on car with the premium audio systems because they have more speaker placements and duplicate install instructions of the other audio systems.
If we don’t have instructions for your vehicle, we do apologize. It’s likely we had high demand for that system but weren’t able to get our hands on a vehicle for filming purposes. Feel free to reach out to support@bavsound.com
How long will it take to get my order?
Orders ship from our fulfillment center located near Wilmington, Ohio. FedEx ground shipping should take 3-7 business days to deliver to your area. Order processing times are from Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00pm (Eastern standard time). Orders must be received before 10:00 am EST to be shipped out the same day.
Where is the toolkit and what's in it?
We do sell our Universal toolkit with all the required tools to work with your BMW audio upgrades. It is $59 and can be added to you order during the check-out process.
Sorry, it is a little tricky ordering just the toolkit off the site. You can add a speaker kit to the cart, then add the toolkit to the order, then delete the speaker kit from the cart so the tool kit is the only item left in the cart.
It is not a necessity to purchase the toolkit for the install. However, it does have very nice, prying tools that make it much faster and easier to remove panels, covers and grilles without damaging them. Also, having all the necessary bits and tools ready to go will significantly reduce the install time.
$59 New Universal tool kit includes:
Plastic door trim pry bar, door trim pick tool, heavy duty pry bar, 10mm wrench, mini socket wrench, screwdriver handle, 7mm, 8mm, 10mm sockets, 22 screwdriver bits including: T-30,T-27, T-25, T-20,T-15, T-10, Philips and flat head drivers. As well as the Socket wrench, extension bar, 10mm socket, and T-50 bit for the subwoofers.
$39 Subwoofer tool kit includes:
Socket wrench, extension bar, 10mm socket, heavy duty pry tool, screwdriver handle, and T-50, T-25, T-20,T-15, T-10, and phillips head bits.
Can I use a gift card or two different credit cards to make a payment?
Unfortunately our systems can only accept one payment method per transaction. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Thank you so much for considering Bavsound for your audio needs. We truly appreciate it, and we're committed to making sure you get great sound in your vehicle. Please let me know if you have ANY further questions or I can help with anything else.
Bang & Olufsen / Bowers & Wilkins audio upgrades
Thank you for your interest in our Bavsound products. Unfortunately we do not have any upgrades compatible with the Bang & Olufsen or Bowers & Wilkins audio systems.
For the B&O and B&W systems, our Ghost subs will fit in the under seat compartment however, the amp signal will cause our subwoofers to blow after mild use. For this reason we cannot offer them as compatible to your B&O or B&W audio system.
Our kits are designed and tuned specifically for the vehicle intended. We only recommend using the kit for your exact vehicle through our website's vehicle selection options. So, if it is not listed we highly discourage trying to make another kit work.

What about BMW Z3 M Roadster kits?
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Unfortunately, we no longer have any upgrade solutions for the BMW Z3s. We discontinued the kits a while back and have no plans for developing them going forward.
There are just not enough Z3s looking for speakers these days. The minimum production quantity needed to place an order does not justify the cost of us getting stuck with unique those speakers that won't get sold. It is just basic economics, not because we don't like Z3s.
Our 5.25" speakers were 40W @ 2.5 Ohms and the other tweeter and midrange speakers were @ 4 Ohms. I have heard from an installer that Rockford Fosgate 5.25" component speakers work in the front and 4" Rockfords with some modifications work for the rears. Also, JVC and Kenwood tweeters will work for that application. Sorry we don't have more specifics than that.
We do not have any leftover parts, and it is not possible to just use the front speakers from the E36 kit as a workaround.
Do Bavsound upgrades really make a difference?
All of our speakers are of infinitely higher build and sound quality than the factory speakers (even the HK). The resulting soundstage is much more clear, open, immersive . . . smooth, strident high end and a more defined, energetic bass spectrum - while being very accurate and true to the original sound source.
Our Stage One speaker upgrade produces higher quality sound, with a wider range and more balanced reproduction of the bass and treble you're currently missing. Unlike the factory speakers, we use proven audio technology: woven fiberglass cones, butyl rubber surrounds, and silk composite tweeters. This results in speakers that remain distortion free at higher volumes, and you get accurate, natural, beautiful sound at much higher volumes.
Our Ghost under seat subwoofers are the perfect upgrade to dramatically improve bass response in your BMW. They will give you a much tighter, louder, punchier bass, and drastically transform your music. They are engineered for efficiency, and maximize every watt of power generated by your amplifier to yield far more bass output than your factory subwoofer. You get breathtaking bass response.
On top of all this it is 100% plug and play with your factory system, and no modification to the vehicle is required
Here is a customer review that we think accurately sums up our Stage one kits.
Title: Fits like a glove
This upgrade is AWESOME! I feel like some customers have unrealistic expectations as to what kind of improvement these speakers can make. Yes, there is an obvious noticeable difference in sound quality especially at higher volumes but it’s not an earth shattering difference. However, for the price point you could not go to any stereo shop and make noticeable improvement to your system without much fabrication and wire splicing which would cost much more for a less trusted/reliable and aesthetically pleasing result. The stage 1 system is By far the simplest way to improve upon the complex Harman Kardon setup in our cars.
Will the Ghost Underseat Subwoofers make a big impact in bass response in my BMW?
Our Ghost Underseat Subwoofers are the perfect upgrade to dramatically improve bass response in your BMW. Our subs pick up right where our midranges roll off, covering the full mid-bass to sub-bass spectrum. This gives your fuller, richer music, and eliminates any gap in your music between the midrange and sub-bass.
Our subs give you much tighter, louder, punchier bass, and drastically transform your music. They are engineered for efficiency, and maximize every watt of power generated by your amplifier to yield far more bass output than your factory subwoofers.
Does the Stage One really enhance sound quality? What if I have standard audio system? What about the premium audio system (Harman Kardon, Logic7, DIRAC, etc.)?
Yes, the Stage One really does work and make a dramatic difference in overall sound quality, clarity, and performance, regardless of the type of audio system your BMW was equipped with from the factory (even your “premium” system).
How is that possible? Well, every audio system in every BMW is the makes compromises to reduce manufacturing costs, even the premium audio systems. When we develop each Stage One, we first perform an analysis of the factory audio system in which the kit is being installed, and optimize it to help overcome the issues of the factory audio system, whether that's lack of midrange detail, harsh tweeters, poor imaging, or anything else.
So no matter which audio system you have in your BMW, the Stage One yields incredible results.
How does the Stage One improve sound quality?
Simply put, by using higher quality materials and better engineering, we're able to achieve a much more accurate, and more importantly, enjoyable listening experience for you and your passengers.
- All speakers have a variety of characteristics which determine their ability to reproduce recorded music faithfully and accurately: magnet design and materials, voice coil design, suspension, surround material, cone material, and so on.
- Vehicle manufacturers make compromises in many of these areas in order to keep costs down.
- The end result is often a poorly designed speaker made with sub-par materials (cheap paper cones, plastic tweeters, etc.) that hits the price target they’ve set... and also sound terrible.
- The result, sonically, is generally distortion or poor frequency response and transient response. Translation? Muffled, muddy, sloppy, and harsh reproduction of your favorite tunes.
- We make no compromises with our product design or the materials used because we don’t have to, so you get great sound without having to change any other components of your vehicle's audio system.
- But not only that; every speaker is engineered for the exact BMW in which it’s installed, right down to the smallest details. Rather than building your speakers for a specific price point, we’ve built them to sound great in your exact car and audio system configuration.
No other company can say the same thing.
Does the Stage One Audio Upgrade improve bass response?
Yes and no. Because our speakers are so much higher quality than the factory components and because they are better designed, they’ll play more loudly without distortion than factory speakers. In most cases we're working with 100mm midrange drivers, which can only move so much air. However, due to the lower levels of distortion, and with our speakers being slightly more efficient than the factory speakers, the factory woofers will skew slightly higher in terms of output throughout normal listening levels. This means you can enjoy higher listening volumes, or alternatively, slightly higher bass settings on your radio.
However, none of our Stage One kits replace factory subwoofers, and they do not increase the amount of overall bass that is produced (despite the perceived improvement due to the factory speakers no longer distorting). If you really want a serious improvement in bass response and overall sub-bass performance, you’ll need one of our Ghost Subwoofer Systems
What type of speakers are included in your Stage One Audio Upgrade? How do your speakers compare to "big name" brands like JBL or Infiniti?
Every Stage One is 100% BAVSOUND exclusive, and uses our proprietary, vehicle specific speakers. They’re designed for your exact model and application, and available exclusively through BAVSOUND.
Making a comparison between the speakers that make up our BAVSOUND Stage One kits to off-the-shelf speaker pairs is like comparing apples to oranges.
First and foremost, off-the-shelf parts just plain don't fit in most cases without modifying the vehicle or the speakers. Our speakers are always a direct fit in your BMW, with no modifications to your BMW required. Ever.
Second, aftermarket speakers are designed to be used with an aftermarket amp, and have "standard" impedance profiles and efficiency. If you're planning to use them with your factory amplifier, odds are they won't sound very good. That's because BMW, in most cases, uses non-standard impedances and very high efficiency speakers. When installing aftermarket speakers with your factory amp, generally they won't present the correct impedance to the amplifier, leading to imbalanced output (some frequencies too loud, others too quiet), not to mention possible damage to your factory amplifier.
BAVSOUND speakers are always correctly impedance and efficiency matched to work in perfect harmony with the rest of the factory audio system and ensuring the continued excellent performance of your factory amplifier and/or head unit.
All of that said, when comparing the actual speaker design and how our speakers sound in real world use compared to many, many aftermarket brands, they are, quite simply, exceptional when compared to most aftermarket speakers offered at similar price points. The reason is simple: we're able to use better materials and speaker designs at the same price point because we don't sell through traditional retail channels with 4-5 middlemen. Instead we buy from our factory and sell to you, and that means more speaker for your money.
So in the end, there really isn't a comparison.
Do I need to replace my factory amplifier or head unit to install the Stage One?
No, you don't. Because we've carefully selected the speakers used in our Stage One Audio Upgrade, they're optimized to sound great with your factory amplifier.
Even though many customers approach us with the idea that they would like an amplifier upgrade, the vast majority of those who install our Stage One are incredibly happy with the upgrade, and never think about an amp upgrade after it's installed.
But don’t I NEED to upgrade my amp to get great sound?
We get this, well, a lot. Again, no, you don’t.
The question to ask yourself is why you want an amplifier upgrade. Most customers think they want an amp upgrade for their interior speakers because they want more punch. In other words, they are looking for the overall sound to have more weight and power.
In reality, while an amplifier upgrade for your interior speakers will help to deliver that, a subwoofer system in general does much more to enhance the perceived "impact" of the audio system AND perceived volume. It also relieves the interior speakers of some of the burden of bass response, allowing them to play more loudly distortion free.
How does this work? Well, many don't realize that the vast majority of sonic energy in recorded music is in the lower frequencies (i.e. bass), and a subwoofer system that can accurately and powerfully reproduce those frequencies gives music its heft and impact when played back. Upgrading the amp for the interior speakers helps in this regard, but interior speakers just aren't optimized to produce bass, and ultimately won't get you there -- but a sub system will.
So, if the Stage One isn't enough for you in terms of overall volume output, we recommend our Ghost Subwoofer Systems.
Will my BMW audio system be louder with the Stage One installed?
Yes and no. While the Stage One provides lush, detailed highs, more defined lows, and significantly more midrange detail, your factory BMW audio system's output is limited by your amplifier, which isn't changed with the Stage One.
However, the speakers included in the Stage One are capable of playing at higher volumes distortion free, meaning the usable volume limits of the system are indeed higher. Practically speaking, this means your BMW’s audio system will indeed play more loudly!
Why do I have to turn my volume up so high?
For the volume in some BMWs, that is actually normal. The BMW volume settings are not a linear representation of the actual volume. 60% of the output power is in the last 30% of the volume spectrum. We alway suggest setting the volume by ear and not the display.
Where can I hear your speakers before buying them?
We get it, it's hard to make an expensive purchase without hearing or seeing the product first. Unfortunately, that is not always an option with Bavsound. Rest assured we are a real and reputable company delivering great audio products for over 15 years. Because we are a direct to consumer brand we do not have many places you can hear our upgrades before purchasing them. This is why we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your purchase, you can send it back for a full refund within 100 days of delivery. This really takes the risk out of trying out our upgrades. We are confident that you will be blown away by the quality and performance of our audio upgrades. Our speakers also come with a 4 year warranty, which mirrors BMW 4 year warranty. Our goal is for you to have incredible upgrades and a fantastic customer experience with Bavsound.
We do also have some Bavsound dealer locations with demo cars for you to check out if available. You can click "find a dealer" at the bottom of our website to find the closest one to you. Or click here; https://www.bavsound.com/dealers/locate Please give them a call first to confirm they have a demo car on site for you to experience!
What are suggested EQ settings?
Here's some suggested EQ settings if you have a Harman Kardon or Logic 7 system (Top HiFi):
Set your bass to flat.
Hop into the EQ and turn off all surround functions.
If you’re using an external source for your music, make sure all EQ settings on that source are flat. If you’re using an AUX input, make sure the AUX volume on your BMW radio is set to the middle. This optimizes the signal transfer from the source to the amplifier (and ultimately out to your speakers).
Reduce your Treble setting by 2-4 "notches" or around flat, and leave "Bass" at flat.
Adjust your EQ as follows:
(NOTE: these are not "absolute" recommendations, but how much you should adjust from your "normal" settings)
80Hz / 100Hz +1 click
200Hz -2 clicks
500Hz (none)
1KHz -1 click
2 KHz -4 clicks
5 KHz -4 clicks
10 KHz -1-3 clicks
That’s it - nothing more is required beyond getting those initial settings and break-in period established.
Here is another set of equalizer settings for the Premium system we have had success with:
Bass - FLAT
Treb - FLAT
Logic 7 - ON
Balance FLAT
Fader FLAT
(keeping it flat after speakers break in give you the best reproduction of the music, although you could have it "+1 Fader" originally to create more imaging while keeping the volume down)
+2 100HZ
-3 200HZ
-1 500HZ
-3 1KHZ
-1 2KHZ
-2 5KHZ
-1 10KHZ
Do you sell Head units or Bluetooth integration?
To answer your question, we don't offer any sort of iPhone, Bluetooth, or Smartphone integration. But we know who does! We suggest you check out www.dension.com or www.gromaudio.com for options.
In some cases, replacing your head unit / nav unit may be a better option (we can't tell you when, it just depends), in which case we suggest you reach out to our dealer www.jandtdistributing.com who offers head unit upgrades and replacements for select models to see if that's a good option for you.
If you're looking for repairs, parts, or replacements for a Bluetooth or integration kit we used to offer, all units are out of warranty and we don't offer repairs, replacements, or service of any kind any longer. You'll need to check out the links above for a new unit instead.
If you have any further questions relating to integrating Bluetooth, aux inputs, smartphones, or head units, unfortunately we don't have any additional information to provide beyond what we've already sent.
But if you have any questions relating to speakers, subwoofer upgrades, or amplifiers, let us know and we'll be happy to help.
Can I switch Bavsound speakers into another vehicle?
Our kits are designed and tuned specifically for the vehicle and audio system intended. We only recommend using the kit for your exact vehicle through our website's vehicle selection options. So, if it is not listed we highly discourage trying to make another kit work.
Yes, in some models, the same speakers are used but the exact fitment and speaker impedances used will not match up for a complete kit from one vehicle to another. DO NOT TRY IT!
If you are going from a vehicle with the Standard Hifi audio system to a Harman Kardon audio system the subwoofers will not work! The Hifi systems use a 2 Ohm impedance woofer while the HK system take our 8 Ohm impedance subs and Vice Versa. Also, some systems only take the 4 Ohm woofers. Test your impedances before swapping!
DO NOT GO OFF THE WEBSITE PICTURES!!! They are not always an accurate representation of what's in the kit. In some cases the connectors are different but also sometimes the mounting depth, mounting size of the basket, impedance etc. can vary. We only recommend using the kit for your exact vehicle through our website's vehicle selection options. So, if it is not listed we highly discourage trying to make another kit work.
I don't hear much improvement from the subwoofers?
Thank you for your order!
Did you order the correct subwoofers for you audio system? Please send you VIN# to sales@bavsound.com to find out.
If you did indeed order the correct subwoofer impedance for your BMW audio system there are a few variables as to why you may not be hearing the difference in bass:
First, the subs have a 10-12 hour break-in period before they can sound their absolute best. You can follow the subwoofer break-in instructions for best use and audio settings.
Second, it may be the type of music you are listening to. If the type of music you are listening to is not recorded with substantial bass our subwoofers will not add bass to the track. Try listening to Flo Rida - Low (it's a good track to test the bass range on).
Lastly, it may be about managing your expectations. Physically a shallow 8" sub cannot move as much air and perform like a 10" trunk subwoofer box that will rattle the windows.
What to listen for:
Our Ghost under seat subwoofers do improve the bass response in your BMW. They give you a much tighter, louder, punchier bass. You can expect to hear crystal clear sound with a sense of fuller, warmer, more encompassing bass in the cabin of your car. They are engineered for efficiency, and maximize every watt of power generated by your amplifier to yield far more bass output than your factory subwoofer.
How can I make my Base audio MINI sound better?
Thank you for your interest in our Bavsound sound solutions!
We recommend choosing the "Base audio" system as that is what you have. We do not make kits that can turn your base audio into the Harmon Kardon audio.
Here's all about the Base system and what is or is not reasonably possible in practical terms:
The Base system's amp is within the head unit. Because of this your car is actually not wired to receive a new amplifier. Installing a new amp requires fairly extensive rewiring to the trunk cavity and reprogramming the head unit. It is possible but not something for which we offer a solution given the advanced nature of the install.
What we do offer is a Stage One speaker upgrade kit and the Ghost under seat subwoofer replacement system. Each of these systems work beautifully off of the factory head unit. While you won't get as much output as you would on a more powerful amp, we do create our speakers to be as sensitive as possible so we get every last ounce of power produced into sound waves!
Here's how we've designed our Stage One speaker replacement to create a solution that is as simple and cost effective as possible, while still sounding incredible:
Our 4” standard audio replacement speakers are referred to as a "point source" or "coaxial" setup. Actually a lot of very high end speakers are built this way. The tweeter just sits in the middle of the woofer, so it's two speakers in one unit. The benefit in your case is easeful-ness of installation and that the treble and midbass will reach the listener simultaneously - resulting in more accurate acoustic imaging. Another benefit is that these coaxials are more efficient on less power than a set of components like the HiFi or HK systems, so you'll get more output on your car's amplifier. It's a win-win.
What are the specs on your speakers?
Many people think that the "watt rating" of a speaker indicates how loud it will be. That is not the case. In fact, the watt rating on speakers is generally provided as RMS and Peak, and refers to how much power a speaker can handle before it is likely to be damaged. Loudness comes from two things: the efficiency of a speaker and the power of the amplifier. The more efficient a speaker, the better it "uses" the power of the amplifier and the louder it plays. And the more power the amplifier has, the louder a speaker plays. You can think of it like how much a car weighs or how powerful its engine is -- the lighter it is or the more powerful its engine, the faster it goes!
These specs are very, very similar to the factory components so that our replacements can work with the factory amplifier. The thing to understand is that speaker specs with car audio aren’t really very revealing in this context.
Speakers in this case are a lot like shock absorbers or springs -- they do have some specs in terms of how they behave, but that won’t tell you much because they operate in a dynamic way based on the inputs they’re getting (either from the road or the amplifier).
The biggest difference between our speakers and factory come from two main areas:
1. Much improved speaker materials, such as going from plastic tweeter domes and paper speaker cones to silk and woven fiberglass. This means much more smoothness, life, and detail during the reproduction of music.
2. Much improved mechanical design. By changing the configuration and design of the suspension and motor structure of our speakers, we’ve made them much more linear with far less distortion than the factory speakers. That means more accurate reproduction of music.

What are the specs for the speakers used in the Stage One?
Our company does things a bit differently than a typical speaker company. In the context of what we do - direct speaker replacements for BMWs - the typical specifications are highly irrelevant to the end user. They ARE relevant during the engineering phase, however.
Take wattage, for example: A typical onesize-fits-all speaker company provides this information either to sound as "powerful" as possible or in order to allow a customer to choose an aftermarket amp to match the RMS of these speakers. This might be 50 watts RMS, 120 watts peak, for example, which means that the speaker can HANDLE a constant load of 50 watts, with higher peaks. It says nothing about the level of output or any other aspect of speaker performance.
What we do is very different. We design speakers to work off a factory amplifier that has a set wattage and impedance for each channel, and those values are very different from generic aftermarket values. For example, the factory amp may be putting out (in a Harman/Kardon E46 configuration):
32 watts @ 2.6 ohms - Midbass
24 watts @ 8 ohms - Midrange
12 watts @ 6 ohms - Tweeter
These values are are all over place. Furthermore, they vary between the "Standard" and "Premium" versions of the audio system, and they don't really tell the whole story, as we haven't even talked about the all-important efficiency values which would need to match the factory speakers - or the actual quality of sound reproduction.
Long story short, we decode this mess of information in the engineering phase, use that data to make the best sounding speakers for the exact system in your exact BMW, and then we shelve it - as it will only lead to confusion. Why? The general public typically wouldn't see "12 watts @ 6 ohms" as a good thing, even though it's the best sounding option for their car aside from fully custom systems in the $3,000 - $5,000 range.
Finally, regarding frequency range data for each speaker, again, this doesn't tell us much as we are working with the factory amplifier crossover settings - but typically, all said and done, you'll be hearing as much of the spectrum as humanly possible given the limitations of the factory system's configuration: about 50Hz - 20,000Hz
Will the Stage One be visible from within the car or require any permanent modifications?
No, our Stage One Audio Upgrade is completely invisible within the car and totally reversible after installation.* Only you and your fellow listeners will know that you've upgraded your stereo since your car will maintain a 100% factory appearance within the vehicle.
*Some exceptions do apply, though this is rare. Please see "Installation" tab and enter your vehicle information to see installation guides and instructions which will outline any modifications required.
Are Bavsound speakers better than the Harman Kardon?
One of the most common questions we receive from customers with the premium or Harman Kardon audio system in their vehicles is “why would I upgrade my audio system if I already have the “best” option available?”
It’s quite simple - while the HK option is indeed the top-of-the-line option offered by BMW or Mini in most cases, it still leaves MUCH to be desired in terms of general listenability and overall tonal balance (which is why you’re seeking out an upgrade, no?). Moreover, it was designed to appear “loud” so that the $900 upgrade is easier for the buyer to validate when spending a few minutes listening to the audio system on the dealer lot. Lastly, the audio system was effectively designed by accountants, in that intense budget schedules were adhered to and projects were shopped to the lowest bidder. In short, sound quality wasn’t at the top of the list when implementing the audio system into the vehicle.
The good news is that the processing (Equalizer/DSP) and the amplifier itself that are a part of the HK system are nothing short of brilliant - there’s ample clean, digital power to work with, and we can fine tune it to our particular tastes with ease using the fairly comprehensive multi-band EQ. The real issues lie after the amplifier. The speakers and subwoofers are where we stand to make the most improvement in the listening experience.
The most common concerns we hear (and know to be true) are as follows:
Tweeter harshness - at moderately loud volumes the tweeters become very fatiguing to the ears
Hollow, distant midrange - relative to the tweeter volume, the midrange drivers sound as if they’re “tucked in” behind the tweeters and aren’t as present in the soundstage.
Muddy, unbalanced, overbearing bass response from the factory subwoofers - simply put, there is very little low-end midbass response as the factory subwoofers simply aren’t accurate enough to play up into the lower mid bass frequencies that the 100mm midrange simply can’t reproduce in an impactful way.
Now, all of the Bavsound speakers are of higher build and sound quality than the factory HK speakers. The resulting soundstage is much more clear, open, immersive . . . smooth, strident high end and a more defined, energetic bass spectrum - while being very accurate and true to the original sound source.
We've achieved this through years of engineering and using audiophile grade components and technology (things like woven fiberglass composite midrange cones, santoprene rubber surrounds, bottomless voice coil design, massive silk-dome tweeters... well, you get the idea!
Our Stage One kit is specifically designed to work with the factory amp and maximize the output, giving you the best sound without spending thousands of dollars.
I hope this helps and let me know if you have any additional questions!
Can I make my Hifi system into the Harman Kardon system?
Unfortunately, a Hifi system cannot be turned into a Harmon Kardon system by just adding the speakers. However, if compatible, our Revenant PRO amplifier will transform your listening experience into something much better!
We are aware that some hifi vehicles come with spaces for those additional tweeters (just like in the premium audio systems). However, we only provide the replacement speakers for the stock setup the audio system comes with. This is because the amplifier is not configured to power the additional speakers.
Unfortunately, we do not sell any individual speakers or partial kits. We only sell kits as they are in their entirety -- nothing more or less -- because this delivers the best overall performance
Do you sell or repair old amplifiers and speakers?
Sorry, Bavsound does not repair or sell any OEM BMW products.
However, for your old BMW amplifier (that we don't have an upgrade for) you can try getting it repaired through United Radio in up-State New York.

Do you replace all the speakers in my MINI?
For your R-generation MINI with the Base audio system we only have the two speaker kit that replaces the upper front door speakers. We do not make the replacements for the larger bottom door speakers. This is because we did not initially intend to create speaker upgrades for MINI but found that our BMW upgrades worked in the MINI vehicles. For the F-generation MINIs we do have more options.
At this point we only offer the speaker upgrades for MINI that we already produce and have chosen not to make complete system upgrades for the other speakers inside the Base audio MINIs.
Only some the MINI's with the Harman Kardon audio systems have an amplifier and additional speaker that match our upgrades to make a complete kit. We used the HK kit for filming our installation videos however, the Base model door speakers use the same instructional video.
Thank you so much for considering Bavsound for your audio needs. We truly appreciate it, and we're committed to making sure you get great sound in your vehicle. Please let me know if you have ANY further questions or I can help with anything else.
Will Bavsound speakers void my warranty?
Your warranty will not be voided and we have never had a problem in this regard. We also would not necessarily advertise any upgrades if you are going in for service. We do recommend kepping the factory speakers or amp in case you need to swap them out. The ONLY thing that BMW could make a claim would be amplifier failure, but they would really stretching as our speakers are built to OEM specs but a much higher quality ... But again, knock on wood we have in 17 years and thousands of customers never seen this.
Do you have speaker upgrades for my M-Audio system?
Unfortunately, we do not have any upgrade solutions for any BMW with M-Audio nor do we have plans for developing them going forward.
E39s with the M-audio systems are Not an option on the Bavsound site. While our site does not list the M-audio system as an option some customers unknowingly select the Hifi or DSP audio system kit options for their vehicle.
The Bavsound E39 kit is not offered work with the M-audio system for the following reasons:
1. There are more speakers in the M-audio system than our kit offers.
2. The M-audio system uses coaxial speakers in some applications that are not available in the Bavsound kit.
3. The install is more difficult and not inline with our plug and play model.
Thank you so much for considering Bavsound for your audio needs. We truly appreciate it, and we're committed to making sure you get great sound in your vehicle. Please let me know if you have ANY further questions or I can help with anything else.
Installs & TroubleShooting
My Hifi system amp isn't working?
Standard Hi-Fi Troubleshooting Guide:1. No sound to the front speakers, or no sound at all, anemic sound: 1a. ASD Bypass Harness may be installed inline which is incorrect, please watch the following video: https://youtu.be/4vxOWPWEwEM
2. No PWR Light on Amplifier: 2a. Check that inline fuse has been installed
2b. If installed, check that fuse is good
2c. If still no power light, double check connections at the battery
3. PWR Light on Amplifier and No Sound:
3a. Double check the tune card is fully seated, if it is in at an angle or the hole on top is not visible, it will need to be inserted again making sure a proper connection is made. Reference photo is attached. 3b. Double check harness connections into the amplifier, and black BMW plug are fully seated and not loose.
3c. Reference your owner manual and check any fuses related the the entertainment system/radio/media etc
4. The sound starts to distort above 70% indicated volume: 4a. This is normal, the factory BMW head unit output has significant distortion in the output signal beginning at 70% indicated volume. We have tuned around this, and the new max volume is in this indicated range.
4b. Playing past 70% indicated volume while hearing distortion in your speakers can and will damage them, and must not be done.
If your issue is not covered here please reach out to support@bavsound and provide us as much detail as possible about your issue, and we will be happy to get you sorted.
My Premium Top-Hifi system amp isn't working? (with MOST adaptor)
Premium Top Hi-Fi/Harmon Kardon Troubleshooting Guide:
1. No PWR Light on Amplifier:
1a. Are lights on the MOST adapter lit up? If they are not lit please try the following:
- Check that inline fuse has been installed
- If installed check fuse is good, check green fuses
- If still no power light double check connections at the battery
1b. If there are lights on the MOST adapter, and the MOST Led light is solid please move on to the next steps. If the MOST Led light is blinking please let us know. It is normal for Status 1, Status 2, and Error to be solid or blinking, the MOST Led light is what we are looking at here.
2. PWR Light on Amplifier and No Sound:
2a. Double check the tune card is fully seated, if it is in at an angle or the hole on top is not visible, it will need to be inserted again making sure a proper connection is made. Reference photo is attached.
2b. Double check harness connections into the amplifier, and black BMW plug are fully seated and not loose
3. Fading to the rear results in no sound/Logic 7 Surround function does not change anything:
3a. This is normal, and a restriction of integrating into your fiber optic MOST based premium audio BMW. We do have full control over the fade functionality when setting our tunes, the head unit controls simply can not work with an aftermarket amplifier.
3b. For a tune more similar to having the surround function on, make sure you are on Tune 2 for Bavsound Speakers and Subwoofers, and Tune 4 for Stock Speakers and Subwoofers
4. Too Quiet even at higher/full volumes:
4a. Our amplifier has significantly less distortion than the factory amplifier, so the perceived volume can be lower than factory, which is extremely distortion heavy above 60% or so indicated volume.
4b. One step to try if you still feel it is not loud enough would be unplugging the MOST adapter 4 pin power harness. Set the radio to 0 volume. Plug the harness back in and turn the volume from 0-100-0 and see if you have more volume available.
If your issue is not covered here please reach out to support@bavsound and provide us as much detail as possible about your issue, and we will be happy to get you sorted.

CanI Install The Stage One Kit Myself?
If you can put together IKEA furniture, you can install our Stage One in your BMW. Here’s why it’s so easy to install:
- The Stage One is designed from the ground up to be easy to install. Installation doesn’t involve complex wiring or modifications to your BMW. Just unbolt the factory speakers and install ours in place, plug in the factory connections, and play! (Some older E36 applications require slightly more work (a dab of glue here and there), but it’s always easy stuff!)
- Installation is so easy that we rarely answer a phone call or email regarding the installation of the Stage One. To see how the Stage One installs in your BMW, click here (http://bavsound.com/help/installationinfo/) and enter your vehicle information. You’ll also be able to download installation instructions and view the video guides available for your BMW.
Where Can I Get My Speakers Installed If I Don't Want To Do It?
We don't have a public shop any longer, but we have a number of wonderful dealers that you might try by clicking the Find a Dealer link at the bottom of each page.
https://www.bavsound.com/dealers/locate
You can also find some good audio, mechanic or body shops locally by looking at Yelp or www.bimmershops.com. Make sure they understand the product (i.e. a simple plug and play upgrade that sounds waaay better), are well reviewed, ideally do a lot of BMW work, and you get a good vibe speaking with them.
Installation cost will depend on the shop you use to install the kit. Bavsound does not provide installation services. Most of our customers use our video installation guides to install the kits themselves. Because our kits are considered DIY, Bavsound does not cover the cost of installation or reimburse for installation costs under any circumstance!
Which Speaker Goes Where?
Thank you for your order! Apologies we weren't more clear in the videos.
In a majority of the the newer BMW vehicles the slightly larger offset 4" speaker will go in the front doors (and rear doors). These part numbers will end in SOF - for Speaker Offset. The other smaller 4" speaker has a flush mount moulding and typically fits in the center dash and rear deck speaker locations. There are often exceptions to the rule, but you should be able to identify the speaker that fits in the location by simply holding it up to the stock speaker and the fitment should become apparent.
For the kits with coaxial speakers the speaker with the longer wire that has the capacitor in it (BSD.SP.CX.4.SOF.C-V3) will go in the front doors. The shorter wire goes in the rear (BSD.SP.CX.4.SOF.-V3).
Thank you so much for choosing Bavsound for your audio needs. We truly appreciate it, and we're committed to making sure you get great sound in your vehicle. Please let me know if you have ANY further questions or I can help with anything else.
Ghost Subwoofer Break-In Instructions
An important note about break-in periods:
Your new subwoofers won't reach their maximum performance until they are "broken in." All subwoofers have a break-in period, and these are no different. "Break in" requires 10-12 hours of playing time with music before the woofers "open up" and sound their best.
You will notice an immediate impact, for sure, but like a fine wine they only get better with time!
How to unbox and handle your new subwoofers safely:
First and foremost, please do not hold the subwoofer by the external plug connector - We cannot stress this enough.
Second, only handle the woofer by the basket itself - Do not handle the woofer by the extension where the female plug is located.
How to install your new subs + important installation tips:
Installation instructions / videos are right on our website, found right here. Note that there may be more than one video (use the arrows to the left and right to switch between videos).
Always test to make sure that each woofer is playing properly before you button everything back up (reinstallation of the grille, seat). We’re not auditioning here, just check for sound and no strange noises (something fell down onto the woofer and is resonating, etc).
How to tune your audio system to get the most out of your new woofers:
When we engineered the woofers for your BMW, as with everything we do, our focus was on maximizing sound quality and usable performance first, and total bass output second.
What does this mean? Without any additional equalization, our woofers (relative to the factory speakers and Stage One) will be slightly quieter than the factory woofers in some, but not all, applications.
However, with some small EQ adjustments, their usable output (meaning how loud they can be played without distortion) is significantly higher, and their dynamics and low end extension are, in a word, exceptional.
Here's how to tune your audio system for your new woofers:
Have a HiFi or Base audio system in your BMW?
Set your Bass to flat.
If you’re using an external source for your music, make sure all EQ settings are flat.
If you’re using an AUX input, make sure the AUX volume on your BMW radio is set to the middle. This optimizes the signal transfer from the source to the amplifier (and ultimately out to your speakers).
Have a Harman Kardon or Logic 7 system (Top HiFi)?
Experiencing issues with your new subwoofers? Here are the most common troubleshooting issues to resolve:
There’s WAY too much bass, even with the above settings.
It’s possible that one of two things happened:
- We goofed up and sent the incorrect impedance woofer (we sent a 2/4 Ohm woofer and you needed an 8 ohm woofer)
- You ordered the wrong woofer (selected the incorrect factory Audio system)
Either way, just reach out to us and we'll get you sorted.
There’s no bass response to speak of - or it’s less than the factory woofers.
It’s possible that one of two things happened:
- We goofed up and sent the incorrect impedance woofer (we sent an 8 Ohm woofer and you needed an 2/4 ohm woofer) - D’oh! Beer on us next time you’re in San Diego, and we’ll get the correct woofers out right away.
- You ordered the wrong woofer (selected the incorrect factory Audio system)
Again, just reach out and let us know what’s up and we’ll make it right!
Weird mechanical noise from one or both of the woofers.
Some debris may have found its way onto the woofer cone, and is resonating as the woofer moves. Clear the impediment and rock on.
If there is no impediment, though very unlikely, it's possible you have a bad woofer -- reach out to us and we'll get you sorted.
Once again, thanks so much for your purchase, and if there's anything else you need, don't hesitate to let us know! We're just an e-mail or phone call (888-878-5520) away.
My Subwoofer Is Different Then The Install Videos
The only differences from the V1 from the V2 subwoofer is the metal grille cover to prevent debris from entering the cone and the pre attached gasket on the back of the sub. Performance and specs are the same.
The newer Version 2 Ghost subwoofers do not come with the gasket material for the back! The gasket is already pre-attached. Please disregard that part of the install video.
My Subwoofer Stopped Working!
Thank you for your order, sorry you are having issue with the product. In order for us to troubleshoot, please provide support@bavsound.com with the car's VIN number. Once received, we will confirm you have the correct impedance and subwoofer selected for your vehicle's audio system. (Yes, this makes a big difference)
To troubleshoot before getting you a replacement:
First check to make sure the speaker is fully plugged in and has power/ sound coming out. If not, test the stock speaker to make sure that the speaker is indeed the issue and not the amp channel.
For rattling you will want to check the sub housing or the sub woofer cone (under the metal grille) for any loose debris that may have gotten in and be rattling around.
For vibrations or "farting" sound you will want to check around the housing to see if air is escaping from somewhere around the housing where is shouldn't be. This can be remedied by reinstalling the woofer to make sure the enclosure is secured properly or by adding sound deadening material around any areas the housing may be vibrating against.
If those don't solve your issue: We'll get it taken care of for you. Please thoroughly fill out the warranty form including VIN# through the link below.
Please send a 30 second video of the issue so we can give it a listen and try to determine the cause before sending out a replacement. Also it is very important to include picture/video of your bass & treble EQ settings when documenting the issue.
A new subwoofer coming defective is an extremely rare occurrence. A blown speaker typically comes from improper use stemming from prolonged play at high volume, paired with an elevated bass setting. The distortion caused by running a system at those levels has the speaker operating at the upper range of its limits and will eventually blow the speaker. You are covered under warranty for 4 years however, we ask that you adhere to the recommended product guidelines going forward.
Here’s how to set your bass, treble, fader and balance for maximum performance:
Set everything to "center" or "flat" and spend 5-10 minutes listening before adjusting any settings further. Often when people want the system to be louder, they turn the bass up, when really they should simply turn the volume up.
If you find you want more bass or more treble than the "default", turn either bass or treble up by at most 3-4 clicks (any more than that will cause distortion and reduce performance).
If you find you STILL want more bass or more treble, turn DOWN the opposite setting by as much as you would like, and then turn the volume up. For example, if you want more bass, turn down treble, and then turn the volume up. This allows for relatively more bass without adding distortion to the signal, and has the same net effect.
Turning both bass and treble up together doesn't make sense—you are better off simply turning the volume up higher.
Which Speaker Goes In Front Of My Base Audio Kit?
Thank you for your order! Apologies we weren't more clear in the video.
How Do I File A Warranty Claim?
Sorry you are having an issue with the product you ordered. We'll get it taken care of for you. Please provide us with the car's 17 digit VIN number so we can confirm you ordered the correct product for your vehicle. Also, thoroughly fill out the warranty form through the link below. Please list the exact speaker type and location that needs replacement. If you are getting an odd sound, please include a 30 second video of the distortion, buzzing or popping you are experiencing.
What Do I Do If My Subwoofers Are Glued In?
Here are two different installation videos that will work for the models that have glued in subwoofers.

My Ghost Subwoofers Don't Fit The Stock Housing?
Thank you for your purchase. The metal grilles are nice looking and are for keeping the debris out of the cone and not necessary for performance. The woofer with the grille should fit back into the housing without issue and allow for the BMW cover to fit back on top. I would check to make sure it is seated correctly and screwed in all the way. If for some reason it does not, you can remove the metal grille (it lifts off easily) and screw down the plastic cover. It will not affect the performance of the subwoofer and the BMW cover should be enough protection from the debris.
We are aware of this situation in some of the X5 models. It is a tight fit, but making sure the woofer is set properly with the grille removed will allow enough space for the upper cover to screw in without harming or affecting the performance of the sub woofer.
Original Revenant Amplifier Tune Setting
The original Revenant amp has two tunes, one for stock speaker systems (green light) and one for upgraded Bavsound speakers (amber light). Before you get the Stage one kit for your car we recommend using the green light setting. After you upgrade the speakers in your vehicle you can change the tune by holding down the control button for 2 seconds until it blinks, then release and the light will turn to amber after a long second.
If you install the Revenant amp and the Ghost subwoofers but still have the factory speakers installed, we recommend listening to each of the tunes and choosing the one you prefer better. It is all a matter of preference.
***Do Not hold button for longer than 8- 10 seconds! it will reset the amp and it will not work***
NOTE:
We would want to make sure on the EQ settings in the car you don’t have your Bass & Treble set more than 1-3 notches off the middle, as this can also cause distortion as the built in EQ functions in the head unit are not as robust as the DSP processing in the amplifier. Keep in mind you can go up on Bass, and down on Treble to achieve the effect of more Bass, not simply up on Bass. Or if you are after more high end the opposite applies.
What Are Suggested EQ Setting?
Fader FLAT
(keeping it flat after speakers break in give you the best reproduction of the music, although you could have it "+1 Fader" originally to create more imaging while keeping the volume down)
+2 100HZ
-3 200HZ
-1 500HZ
-3 1KHZ
-1 2KHZ
-2 5KHZ
-1 10KHZ

How Do I Uninstall The Window Shade?
For those rear doors, here’s the trick; pop off the horizontal window shade as shown here (different BMW, same methodology) - about 2:50 in - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y25x6gIIgPE
From there, there should be a Torx screw visible along the top edge of the door panel with the horizontal shade removed, just like in the above video. Then, the only screw is behind the door handle, similar to the front door. From there, release the tabs using your blue panel removal tool along the front, bottom, and rear edges (just like the front doors) and then lift up with the sides and bottom of the door released. Unplug everything and voila. Same as the front speaker-wise.

I need to cancel my order!
Unfortunately, we usually have about a 20 minute window during our business hours to cancel an order once it is placed and begins processing in our fulfillment center. We will do our best to cancel the order outside of this window but if the order has gone through the fulfillment process you will need to take delivery of the package and then send it back using the FedEx return shipping label provided through our returns process. Please DO NOT refuse the shipment!
Once you submit the return and we receive the product, we will issue your refund.
Please start your return request after you have received the package by following the link below:
Why hasn't my order shipped yet?
First, Thank you for your order!
There are a number of reasons your order may not have shipped yet. We appreciate your business and will make sure you get what you paid for. If it has been more than 3 days since your order was placed please email support@bavsound.com. Otherwise, please be patient as your order processes.
Here is a list of common reasons:
It’s the weekend! Order processing times are from Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00pm (Eastern standard time). Orders must be received before 11:00 am EST to be shipped out the same day.
There are some instances where the carrier picks up the orders from our fulfillment center and hasn’t scanned the package yet. Packages should be scanned once they enter a carrier facility and update in their tracking system. Please be patient as it can take 24 hours or longer.
Part of your order could be on Backorder. It is our policy to hold any incomplete kit/order, until we can ship it in its entirety. This is to prevent any complications during the install process.
If it’s near a holiday time or big sales event our fulfillment center may be overwhelmed and trying to process the large influx of orders and just can’t keep up.
For international orders you may notice on your order it mentions: Wholesale Shipping ONLY (RETAIL ORDERS WILL BE CANCELLED). This option is only for our international Bavsound dealers that place bulk orders for product. Your retail order will be cancelled
How long will it take to get my order?
Orders ship from our fulfillment center located near Wilmington, Ohio. Ground shipping from various carriers should take 3-7 business days to deliver to your area. Order processing times are from Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00pm (Eastern standard time). Orders must be received before 10:00 am EST to be shipped out the same day.
What is the size and weight of the shipment?
For the size of the package I can get you an approximation as the kits vary and the boxes that the distribution center use sometimes vary as well.
The weight of the Stage One is approximately 5-12 lbs and the box dimension is:
Width = 12-14 inches
height = 6-10 inches
length = 16-18 inches
If you are getting ghost subs or multiple kits:
The Ghost sub pair come in a box that is 12"x12"x8" box and weighs 8lbs
They will fit the Stage One and Subs in the appropriately sized outer box. So the final package size if you purchase speakers and subs will be about 12"x10"x18" and weigh 14-16 pounds.
How do I exchange speakers?
Unfortunately, we do not have an exchange process through our internal system. You will need to start a return and place a new order for the correct kit you need. Once you submit the return and we receive the product, we will issue your refund.
You are welcome to purchase the new kit immediately if it is time sensitive OR you can wait until you receive your refund to make the new purchase for the correct kit.

How make a return (for US customers)
We do accept returns that are started within the 100 day trial period.
Please submit your return request by following the link below. Once you submit the return and we receive the product, we will issue your refund.

We do request that all returns be sent back in the original boxes and working condition to receive the full refund within the 100 day trial period.
So that we're very clear here - if you return speakers and they're not in resell-able condition (ie. not securely packaged in the original Bavsound packaging, a tab is bent, the cone is damaged) we will have to charge you for the pair of speakers. We carefully inspect and test every speaker that comes back (fortunately it doesn't happen very often, so we have the ability to do so) and you will be billed for any damages that are noted. Items returned without boxes with be charges a $50 reboxing fee.

We do accept returns that are started within the 100 day trial period.
We process returns on Fridays the week the returned package is delivered to our office. Funds will be returned to the original payment method. If you used Affirm the refund will go your Affirm account for the remaining balance and you will be refunded the amount you paid towards the loan by Affirm directly.
Specific Kits
E46 Hifi Convertible Rear Tweeter not working?
Thank you for your order!
We have seen some cases where the tweeters in your car are pinned differently than the E46 we did our research and development on. In this case, our harness where it plugs into your BMW would have Pins 1 and 3 populated, where as the BMW side would have Pins 1 and 2.
Pin 2 is the negative on both our harness, and the BMW harness, and simply swapping Pin 2, into the Pin 3 location should do the trick on our harness if so. You should be able to very quickly and visually identify if this is the issue in the car. You can follow the video link below on how to do this.

I have heard from an installer that Rockford Fosgate 5.25" component speakers work in the front and 4" Rockfords with some modifications work for the rears. Also, JVC and Kenwood tweeters will work for that application. Sorry we don't have more specifics than that.
For the love of god, please do not call us asking if we have any leftover parts, or if you can just get front speakers from the E36 kit so you can make them work.

Amplifiers for E36, E38, E39, E46?
Amplifiers for E36, E38, E39, E46:
Unfortunately, our amplifier upgrades aren't compatible with your generation BMW and we don't have any plans to make a version for the older model vehicles.
We are not aware of any simple aftermarket amp solutions for the E chassis models as they are a closed system that would require a full rewiring of the the entire vehicle to do an amp upgrade.
The best solution we can recommend is an OEM replacement.
Do you have subwoofer upgrades for my E36, E39, E46?
Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately we no longer make subwoofer upgrades for the E36, E39, E46 models. The trunk sub box was a great product however, upgrades such as that required significant technical support time that wasn't profitable enough to continue. Our business model has since shifted to being a plug and play solution only company.
We don't have a recommendation for trunk subs as that isn't something we haven't focused on for quite some time. Your best resource for preferred speakers would be the Bimmer forums. For a stealthy box you would need to consult a car audio professional.
Thank you so much for considering Bavsound for your audio needs. We truly appreciate it, and we're committed to making sure you get great sound in your vehicle. Please let me know if you have ANY further questions or I can help with anything else.
I can't find rear speakers for my E36 Convertible?
Unfortunately, we no longer have any Rear Speaker upgrade solutions for the BMW E36 convertibles.
Bavsound discontinuing the full E36 convertible upgrade kit in 2020 because we could no longer provide the rear speaker upgrades.
Due to popular demand, we recently re-released a partial (front speaker only) kit for the E36 convertibles.
Unfortunately, we no longer have the rear upgrade speakers for the E36 convertibles because the minimum production quantity needed does not justify the cost
We are not aware of any brands with plug and play upgrade options available to match the impedance to replace those particular speakers.
Our kits are designed and tuned specifically for the vehicle intended. We only recommend using the kit for your exact vehicle through our website's vehicle selection options. So, if it is not listed we highly discourage trying to make another kit work.
Why don't you have an amp for my: 1 series, 2 series, E48 X1, E39 X2 with standard hifi audio?
The 1 series, 2 series, E48 X1 and E39 X2 with Standard HiFi audio systems are bit unique from its peers and are not compatible with our Revenant amplifier because of the system wiring.
What we do offer is a Stage One speaker upgrade kit and the Ghost under seat subwoofer replacement system. Each of these systems work beautifully off of the factory source unit. While you won't get as much output as you would on a more powerful amp, we do create our speakers to be as sensitive as possible so we get every last ounce of power produced into sound waves!
Here's how we've designed our Stage One speaker kit to create a solution that is as simple and cost effective as possible, while still sounding incredible:
Our 4” replacement speakers are referred to as a "point source" or "coaxial" setup.
E39 5 series Kit
Thanks for your interest.
The kit for the E39 replaces most of the speakers in the vehicle. The Stage One upgrade will replace your 4-tweeters and 4- 5.25" mid bass speakers but not the two- 2" midrange in the front doors. (These will not work if you have the M-audio system with coaxial speakers in your E39).
Our speaker upgrades produce higher quality sound, with a wider range and more balanced reproduction of the bass and treble you're currently missing. Unlike the factory speakers, we use proven audio technology: woven fiberglass cones, butyl rubber surrounds, and silk composite tweeters. This results in speakers that remain distortion free at higher volumes, and you get accurate, natural, beautiful sound at much higher volumes.
On top of all this it is 100% plug and play with your factory system, and no modification to the vehicle is required.
**We do not make a replacement midrange speaker for this vehicle because:
1. The Philips driver is a high quality speaker that in our opinion did not need to be upgraded to improve the system.
2. That particular style of midrange was not used in many vehicles so it was not cost effective enough to invest money in producing a replacement.
Our only suggestion for those replacements is to purchase the OEM speakers from BMW
We only make speaker upgrades that work with the factory amp.

E38 7 Series Kit
We've got two kits for your E38 that will replace most of the speakers in your vehicle. The Stage One upgrade will replace your tweeters and 5.25" mid bass speakers while the other will replace the 4 woofers in your rear deck. You can start with either kit or replace both at the same time.

E46 Touring/ Wagon rear speakers?
Thanks for your interest.
The E46 wagons with Harman Kardon audio use a different 6x9 rear speaker that we do not have a replacement for. Only the E46 with standard Hifi systems us the same rear 6.25" speaker as in the front.
We unfortunately don't have a guide for the rear parcel installation. You can purchase the E46 Hifi kit for a sedan and work out the install on your own for the 6.25" speakers as they do physically fit. The E46 Wagon is a super low production vehicle and we likely won't be filming that install in the future.

MINI R-Gen lower door speakers
E63/E64 6 Series convertible kits
Thanks for your interest. Sorry we only have the Stage One 8 or 9 speaker upgrade for the E64 6 series convertible with standard hifi or premium audio system. Unfortunately we do not have upgrades for the subs in that model. The E64 behind the seat subwoofer mounting is not compatible with our Ghost sub woofers. In addition the installation for those is quite extensive and are not something we chose to release due to the less than plug & play nature of the install.
As for the amp upgrade the wiring is not compatible with our Revenant amplifier.

E53 X5 kits
Unfortunately the X5's before 2007 are an older body style with totally unique components. Once we sold through the kit, we discontinued production because there wasn't enough demand. Bavsound has no plans of reproducing that kit in the future.
All the best
E85/E86 Z4
Thanks for your interest. Sorry we only have the 4 speaker upgrade for the E85/E86 Z Roadster. Unfortunately we do not have upgrades for the other speakers in that model. It wasn't a high production vehicle and uses different style speakers than what are used in the more common vehicles. The speakers used for the Z4 sub woofers are a unique shape that are not compatible with our Ghost sub woofers. In addition the installation for those and the other speakers is quite extensive and are not something we chose to release due to the less than plug & play nature of the install.
If you are still interested in upgrading the front mids and tweeters here is the link to the products:

BMW i3 with Base audio
Unfortunately, we only have the two speaker upgrade for the base audio i3s. There is no compatible amp upgrade as the head unit powers the audio system. The sub woofer set up in the i3 is also unique with the single sub in the back that doesn't fit our Ghost sub woofers.
The overall loudness will be dictated by the head unit as that is what's powering the speakers instead of an amp. With our speaker upgrade you should be able to turn the volume up much further without the distortion to get the clearer, louder sound you're looking for.
